LBO (Lithium Triborate)
Lithium Triborate (LBO) is one of the most useful nonlinear optical materials not just for its relatively large conversion coefficient - 3x that of KDP, but also for its excellent physical properties and highest LiDT(Laser induced Damage Threshold) amongst all nonlinear materials. LBO’s unparalleled power handling capacity makes it the material of choice in high power frequency conversion from IR down to UV in the 300nm wavelength region. Used in the NCPM (Non-Critical Phase Matching) SHG (Second Harmonic Generation) configuration, Kilowatts of green power can be produced without walkoff.
Small traces of contaminants during the growth and/or fabrication process can lead to major breakdown issues, especially in the UV. Our super low absorption bulk crystal, combined with our proprietary UV-grade super polish process is critical for highest damage threshold and stability in long term operations.
GAMDAN OPTICS SUPERIOR LBO
We discuss below some of the key characteristics of GAMDAN Optics’ LBO crystals.
Exceptionally Low Absorption
Absorption, even in trace amounts, causes local accumulation of thermal energy in the presence of high power laser light. Phase matching in LBO is particularly sensitive to temperature variation. Local temperature variations due to absorption causes laser beam to deteriorate over time. Absorption on the optical surfaces caused coatings to delaminate and fail. Applications requiring 24-7 operation demand the lowest absorbing bulk material as well as optical surfaces.
GAMDAN Optics’s LBO crystals have an extremely low and evenly distributed bulk absorption as measured by PCI (Photo-thermal Common-Path Interferometry). (Contact us for IR, green and UV bulk absorption analysis) Strict control of fabrication materials and processes minimizes contamination on the optical surfaces. In-house fabrication governed by a robust and thorough quality system ensures the continuous improvement of this key characteristic. Production crystals are regularly monitored for bulk and surface absorption.
Multiple UV lifetime test were completed in Nanosecond, Picosecond and Femtosecond systems with superior performance. (Contact us for UV lifetime analysis)
